The Christine Todd Whitman Excellence in Public Service Series was founded in 1998. Its mission is to increase the number of New Jersey women involved in government at the local, county, state and federal levels.

The Series, which is a New Jersey non-profit corporation, provides leadership training for Republican women who are interested in running for elected office, seeking appointments to key positions at the county or state level, or assuming party leadership roles. It does not take positions or lobby on issues, nor does it support or oppose candidates for public office.

The Series selects approximately 16 women, representing a broad cross section of New Jersey counties, ages, occupations and national origins. A substantial percentage have experience as elected municipal officials or party leaders, and are preparing for county or state office. Any Republican woman may apply. The Series does not select candidates for the educational program on the basis of their positions on issues.

The Series now has approximately 150 alumnae, all active in politics and government, in every county in New Jersey.

Women's Political Caucus NJ recently partnered with the CTW Series to establish the Jane Burgio memorial scholarship, to honor the late legislator and former NJ secretary of state. Announcing the scholarship are the Hon. Carol Murphy (back row l.), Nancy Becker, CTW Series founding chair (second from l.); Barbara Sussman Goldberg, Women's Political Caucus NJ president; and Candace Straight, CTW Series founder (right). Ruth Bedford (front row), sister of Jane Burgio, was also on hand at the announcement.
